This course covers the first unit of the latest FPOS course. After completing this course you can then take the computer test at an approved FPOS centre.

This course must be completed alongside the recommended reading for the course and we have put links in the student downloads section of this course.

It is important to remember that completing this online course is only part of the FPOS course and you will not receive your full level 4 FPOS qualification until you have attended and passed the practical lessons and assessments at an approved FPOS centre.

This course comes with 10.0 hours of CPD, although the time to complete the course online may be less than this. Total course time includes 3 hours and 55 minutes of video training as well as knowledge reviews, final test, remedial help and reviewing downloaded material.

The content of this and all our courses has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and come with a Certified CPD Statement as well as a ProTrainings Certificate and for online courses an Evidence Based Learning statement.

1.2    Explain how the first responder can maintain their knowledge and skills over time
1.3    Describe how the first responder can protect themselves from false allegations 2

2.1    Describe the capabilities of emergency service responders
2.2    Explain the principles of scene management
2.3    Use the triage sieve to effectively prioritise the management of multiple casualties 3

Learning outcomes  3 -  Understand how to manage own and others safety when attending incidents as the first responder

3.1    Identify hazards that pose a risk to the safety of self and others when attending incidents
3.2    Identify the priority in which the first responder should ensure the safety of those present at the incident
3.3    Explain the correct selection of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be worn to maintain ownership and others safety when attending incidents
3.4    Describe strategies that can be employed to reduce potential risks to the first responder

4.1    Describe the responsibilities of the first responder in relation to infection prevention and control
4.2    Describe how to maintain professional standards of personal hygiene
4.3    Describe the principles of hand hygiene
4.4    Describe the chain of infection

5.1    Identify signs of potential abuse
5.2    Describe the actions to be taken if a safeguarding issue is suspected
5.3    Describe the actions the first responder should take if a safeguarding issue is disclosed

6.1    Explain the principles of an effective clinical handover
6.2    Describe the components of a Patient Report Form
6.3    Describe the steps to be taken to ensure equipment is serviceable and available post-incident
6.4    Explain when the first responder should seek help with their own mental wellbeing
