Once a child choking victim becomes unconscious, activate EMS. Start CPR as we have already covered. When you start the breaths, check for any objects in the patient's mouth, sweep out if possible by turning the patient on his side, but NO blind finger sweeps. Attempt two breaths. If there is no chest rise and fall, then move on to chest compressions immediately. Perform 30 chest compressions, check for the object again, and check for any visible obstructions. Do not attempt to do the breaths more than twice.
With calling the EMS, we would, where possible always send a bystander to call them immediately. If you are on your own, you should use the "Call Fast" approach and carry out 1 minute of CPR then go and make the call.
