While you are waiting for the EMS to arrive, think about what you need to do while you are waiting, the patient is your primary concern, maybe there are bystanders who can help.

Make sure that you have provided as much information as possible over the phone, this can be passed onto the emergency medical services so that they know exactly what to expect when they arrive.  Maybe there are cars making access difficult or items that could be moved out of the way safely.

Ask bystanders to go and look out for the ambulance and direct them to you.  If you are at home, make sure that pets have been locked away safely, if it is night time, turn on all of your lights as this will make the house stand out and the EMS will be able to locate you more easily.

Ask the patient or relatives about any medications the patient may be taking or if they have any medical conditions, you can pass this onto the emergency medical services when they arrive.  If possible find out the details of the patient's doctor and whether they are already receiving hospital treatment.

In the workplace, make sure that the person on reception and any other relevant people know that an accident has occurred and where to sent the emergency medical services.  You don't want their arrival delayed because no-one is aware of what it going on.

Keep your mobile with you so that the EMS can call you at any time.
