This qualification is suitable for those already working or for those wishing to prepare to work in confined spaces. The general principles of working in confined spaces are covered in this qualification, providing the learner with an understanding of key issues relating to working in confined spaces. This qualification also forms a part of the competence qualifications for working in a High and Low-Risk confined spaces, providing a clear progression route for a learner.

The TQUK suite of Confined Space qualifications provides learners with the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of working in confined spaces. Areas covered include health and safety, classification of confined spaces by risk level and specific requirements for medium and high-risk areas. Learners will be able to progress to qualifications in the same, or another, subject area and prepare them for employment.

The minimum age for this qualification is 16 years old.

This course gives learners the opportunity to gain a formally recognised regulated qualification. If you require funding, a regulated qualification is often required. If you choose our course leading to a regulated qualification, there are additional assessment criteria to be undertaken with an instructor and a small extra certification charge.

This course comes with 10.0 hours of CPD, although the time to complete the course online may be less than this.

3. Understand how to deal with emergencies
3.1  Explain how emergency situations can arise in a confined space
3.2  Describe the different roles and responsibilities of team members for dealing with emergencies
3.3  Explain how to deal with injuries to personnel and the general public
3.4  Explain how to deal with irregularities and abnormal situations
3.5  Describe different types of emergency situation
3.6  Explain procedures for dealing with emergencies
3.7  Describe communications and reporting systems for emergency situations

4. Apply relevant industry standards for working in low or medium risk confined spaces

4.1  Explain different classification schemes and how to identify the confined space classification
4.2  Explain how to map own organisation’s classifications into National Occupational Standards for confined spaces
4.3  Describe entry procedures for confined spaces
4.4  Explain how to carry out real-time assessment of risks and hazards
4.5  Describe procedures and methods of working suitably to low or medium risk environments and local conditions
4.6  Explain how to monitor conditions and work activity

5. Understand the communication skills needed for efficient working

5.1  Explain how to resolve problems speedily and with the designated personnel where other people or organisations are involved
